Mocenni worked around the
clock racing against time to complete a sculpture during his stay at
the Benini Foundation and Sculpture Ranch the second week in
November. Upon his arrival, Benini took Mocenni to Lampasas to
acquire thick cedar boards. Working with the dimensions of the
three pieces he selected, that evening Mocenni completed his
drawings and began work, shaping, sawing, filing and sanding the
pieces. Each day he returned to the boards, stopping only for meals
and a special lecture presentation. Soon the workshop was layered
with a fine cedar dust and still he continued. Each groove, each
angle received his focused attention. A contrasting finish was
selected to set off the dynamism of the three pieces with a final
wax polish to heighten the beauty of the grains. Finally, this
cedar from Texas, now a sculpture, will be secured in a vertical
position and stand in testimonial to the determination and creative
drive of a 69-year old maestro from Milano....
