BRYAN
MASSEY
Born in Goldsboro,
N.C and now residing in Conway, Arkansas, sculptor Bryan Massey’s
powerful, often towering works include materials such as bronze,
alabaster and limestone, as well as unusual additions such as
bullets.
The challenge is combining some raw and/or man-made materials and
creating images inspired by my life’s travels and experiences... My
work is a balance of realism mixed with a greater degree of
abstraction...It is my goal as an artist to create the ultimate
masterpiece…. Although I can never forsake my African or American
heritage (because my work reflects both), I want to branch out into
even greater diversity. I feel that at this stage of my career, my
work is just beginning to reach its potential and I am finally
blossoming into my full potential as a professional artist.
Massey is currently a professor of art at the University of Central
Arkansas, Conway and oversees the program’s sculpture and 3-D
emphasis. His work is exhibited nationally and internationally in
juried competitions, in museums and in private galleries.
