Marshall Cunningham, M.D., sculptor, teacher and doctor, resides in Willow City, Texas about 30 miles from the Sculpture Ranch. Artist and doctor, Cunningham is currently the medical director of the Hill Country Memorial Wound Care Clinic in Fredericksburg. His focus on microscopic delicate procedures was a marked contrast to his welding bending, cutting, grinding and finish work of his sculpture. His sculpture consists primarily of steel because of the strength and nature of the product . He chose the Sculpture Ranch because of its mystic views, the natural surroundings and wildlife. As he states, "This place interacts with the art that Benini brings here, it's magical."
Works by Marshall Cunningham, M.D., can be found in collections dating back twenty years. His eight-piece Gathering was the first major installation on a hillside, completed and installed over the span of one year. It is now installed on a private ranch. After 18 months of intense studio work, in November, 2009 Cunningham's Commedia del Arte series was installed on the Sculpture Ranch.
