JOSEPH
BUCHANAN
Tulsa, Oklahoma
Buchanan was born in
Jacksonville, Florida and
traveled the world with his
parents as his father fulfilled
a military career. His sculpting
career started in Iceland, where
he remembers the icy landscape,
barren of trees, had an impact
that carried into his work.
Other highlights of his
sculptural work included working
with German sculptor Josef
Mueller for two years in
Wurtzburg and, as a University
of Maryland student, assisting
the famous Japanese sculptor
Noguchi as he designed and
created a Houston sculpture park
in 1988. The millennium
changeover found him in Johnson
City, at the home of his friend
Benini whom he had known in Hot
Springs.
