INSTALLATION:
The installation of Ascension, large scale sculpture
by Pete Deise, Arizona based sculptor, arrived from Phoenix by semi
Friday, November 17, 2006. The images in this slideshow pertain to the preparation for transport from Phoenix and the
installation at the Benini Sculpture Ranch.
From 4’ x 10’ x
¼ inch steel sheets these pieces are born - a complex mix of process and
sweat combine with the torch and the grinder to create the many
individual elements that are heated and curved - twisted and tangled and
welded. A Deise sculpture series is conceived after an intense period of
hypersensitivity to the beauty of naturally occurring curvatures - the
mind’s iris wide open and easily influenced by ideas rapidly penetrating
the fertile winter soul - creation occurs in the spring oven hot summer.
This series of steel sculpture is named Ascension and was born of
inspiration experienced upon completion of the last piece in the last
series Eruption - with these sculptures I am exploring the
transformation of energies once captured and captive - now born free
from their geometric restraints - struggling germinating forms affected
by the forces of nature - evolving - responding - turbulent structures
and their rising spires.
